A letter from Frank Sutfin

I mainly grow corn and beans and use irrigation for different fields and I was interested in replacing an older diesel-driven pump with electric but I did not have 3-phase power at the site. I contacted Remco Electrical Mfg. about going with a phase converter and they helped me design an electrical system with their rotary phase converter that would provide me with 3 phase power to operate both the well and the existing 7 tower pivot.

Remco application engineers ran voltage drop calculations for the switchover reccomending going with underground 4/0 wire as the pump was 900 feet from the electric service and converter as well as sizing the single phase 200 amp main panel. They also acted as my consultant in an advisory role meeting with our local utility supplier, Consumers Energy who supplied 480 volt single phase and my electrician to address needed electrical installation requirements.

In addition to purchasing the PV125 soft start rotary converter I also purchased from Remco a 60HP vertical hollow shaft motor and a Remco 100 amp 3 phase pump panel.

I appreciate Remco helping me make the switchover from diesel to low cost single phase electric and I can reccommend them to anyone who would want to do the same.
